As the New York legislative session heats up and bills are now being filed (we sent out an email update yesterday to our 1,000+ supporters), it’s a good time to review the basic facts of how New York law discriminates against adult adoptees and what has happened over the years to make that a reality today.
We have a timeline and flowchart that make the history simple to understand. You can also use these to educate supporters, legislators, and the press. Feel free to use these resources anytime. They are available in PDF form here and here, which you can print and use so long as you do not modify them.
A Ward says
Do I have any recourse? My mother was placed in the NY Foundling in 1915, weeks after birth. They have provided me with her name and that of the BM, both the same. There is no record of birth registration under this name. Apparently there is a BFs name on record which they will not release. Well over 100 years and I still don’t know who I am.
