As we announced this week, we have a bill that NYARC supports: A9959B/S7631B. The assembly bill—A9959B— is now in the Health Committee, which is chaired by Richard Gottfried, who thankfully is also a co-sponsor of the bill. But we need to get other assembly members behind the bill in two ways: 1) co-sponsorship; and 2) moving the bill through committee and to the Assembly floor for vote. The bill is now being considered for a vote on Tuesday, June 5, in the Health Committee. Here’s where we need help from you now.
Contact Assembly Members
Emails have already gone out to NYARC supporters asking them to request their assembly members’ support for A9959B, including co-sponsorship of the bill. If you signed up as a supporter but did not get an email, please contact us at [email protected]. For everyone else, please email or call your assembly member today. You can find your assembly member here, but you can also contact the assembly members we list below (they are on the Health Committee). We suggest the following message, which you can modify to include your own message or personal circumstances. Our only advice is to be concise and respectful.
Dear Assembly Member [Last Name]:
I am a New York resident and voter. I strongly support A9959B, an adoptee rights bill that will finally restore equality to adult adoptees in New York. I ask you to do two things:
1) add your support as a co-sponsor of A9959B;
2) urge your colleagues in the Assembly to vote DO PASS on A9959B when it comes up for consideration in the Health Committee on June 5.
This is a very important issue to me and to hundreds of thousands of adoptees and New Yorkers. Please let me know your position on this issue as well as your response to my two requests.
