We are asking all New York adoptees and their allies to contact Governor Andrew Cuomo to make this request:
In his veto of A5036B, Governor Cuomo directed the Department of Health to develop a work group to study the issue of adoptee rights and original birth certificates. Senator Tony Avella already has a strong adoptee rights bill pending (S5169A). I support that bill, and the governor should give Senator Avella a seat on the work group so that he can represent New York adoptees on this issue.
You can contact Governor Cuomo in three ways:
Phone: Call 1-518-474-8390. You can leave a message or ask to be connected to an agent to provide a message to Governor Cuomo. Ask that Governor Cuomo add Senator Tony Avella to the Department of Health work group that is making recommendations on adoptee rights in New York. Make it personal if you wish or use the sample statement we have provided above.
Online Contact Form: You can email a message here, leaving your contact information and address. You can copy the statement above or provide your own, but make sure you ask that Senator Tony Avella be added to the Department of Health work group that is making recommendations on adoptee rights in New York.
Fax: Fax a letter to Governor Cuomo’s office at this fax number: (518) 474-1513. You can use the suggested statement above or provide or personalize your own, but make sure you ask that Senator Tony Avella be added to the Department of Health work group that is making recommendations on adoptee rights in New York.
Please share this action alert widely. We must assure that adoptee voices are heard. Senator Avella is a staunch supporter of adoptee rights and deserves a seat at the DOH work group table with everyone else.
