Contact Members of the Assembly Codes Committee

June 6, 2018 By New York Adoptee Rights Coalition

Assembly bill A9959B has passed out of the Health Committee and is now in the Codes Committee, which is chaired by Joe Lentol. At least eight members of the Codes Committee are also on record as supporting A9959B, including primary sponsor David I. Weprin. But we need your help urgently to get other assembly members behind the bill and to the Assembly floor for a vote.

Contact Codes Committee Members

Please email or call your assembly member today. You can find your assembly member here, but you can also contact the assembly members we list below (they are on the Codes Committee). We suggest the following message, which you can modify to include your own message or personal circumstances. Our advice is always to be concise and respectful.

Dear Assembly Member [Last Name]:

I am a New York resident and voter. I strongly support A9959B, an adoptee rights bill that will finally restore equality to adult adoptees in New York. I ask you to do two things:

1) vote DO PASS on A9959B when it comes up for consideration in the Codes Committee.
2) if you are not already a co-sponsor, add your name as a co-sponsor of A9959B;

This is a very important issue to me and to hundreds of thousands of adoptees and New Yorkers. There are already twenty co-sponsors to this bill and has wide bi-partisan support. Please let me know your position on this issue as well as your response to my two requests.

Thank you,

    I strongly believe that my right and others as a adoptee should get our original birth certificate because of the way my adopted mom and dad are dead and took this secret to their Graves I was already hurt in my heart finding out I was adopted as a baby through Surrogate Court by the private office and adopted mom and dad and hurt by my adopted mom and dad never telling me what happened in my past life and not telling me I have a birth mom and sister and then when you pay the adoption office for some information about your birth but don’t get all the information when your birth certificate has been sealed and go to your adopted parents to find out more information what happened when you was born and then your adopted parents lie right to my face is really hate secrets especially when it comes from your parents about what happened in my adopted life
