After New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s historic veto of A5036B, a bill that would have discriminated against adult adoptees for generations, it’s now time to get it right. It’s also past time to make it equal.
Join us today to get there. Over the next 60 days we need as much strong and unwavering support as possible to make it right, to make it so that New York state finally restores the right of adopted persons in New York to possess what is theirs: their own unaltered original birth certificates.
Here is what we ask you to do now:
- Make your own “Get It Right. Make It Equal” picture and send it to us for sharing or share it yourself on social media. A template is here. Print it out, take a selfie, and post it to social media using the hashtags #ThisIsPersonal and #GetItRight. Tag your legislator and @NYGovCuomo. Or send it to us for use at [email protected];
- Sign up to take part in legislative actions, including contacting Governor Cuomo to ask that he to continue his strong support of equal rights for adopted persons;
- Be prepared to call or contact your legislator, especially if you are a New Yorker. As we get closer to our goal, it is extremely important that you are willing to make one simple request of your legislator: Get It Right. Make It Equal.
Stay in touch, get involved. It will come down to what we all manage to do in the next 60 days.
